Multiple desktops are great for keeping unrelated, ongoing projects organized—or for quickly switching desktops before a meeting.
In this blog post/video, I am going to show you, how to create Multiple virtual desktops, switch between virtual desktops. close virtual desktops and set backgrounds for virtual desktops on Windows 11 PC.

How to create multiple desktops on Windows 11

To create multiple virtual desktops in Windows 11:
  1. From the Windows taskbar, select the Task View icon to open Task view.
    You can also use the Windows logo key + Tab to open Task view.
  2. In Task View, under New desktop click on Add + icon.
  3. And then open the apps you want to use on that desktop.

Alternatively, you can also use the Windows logo key + Ctrl + D to quickly add/create a virtual desktop.

How to switch between multiple desktops on Windows 11

To switch to another virtual desktop in Windows 11:
  1. Open Task View.
  2. And select a Desktop to switch to that desktop.

Alternatively, you can also use the Windows logo key + Ctrl + Right arrow or Left arrow to switch to the right or left virtual desktop.

How to close a desktop on Windows 11

To close a virtual desktop in Windows 11:
  1. Open Task View.
  2. Click on the close × icon above a desktop to close that desktop.

Alternatively, you can also use the Windows logo key + Ctrl + F4 to quickly close the virtual desktop you're using.

How to set backgrounds for desktops on Windows 11

You can also choose different backgrounds for each desktop if you're using a picture. If you're using a solid colour or a slideshow, all your backgrounds will be the same.  
To change the background if you're using a picture:
  1. Open Task View.
  2. Right-click on the desktop you want to change and select Choose background.
  3. Select the list in the Personalize your background section, then select Picture.
  4. And then select a picture to set backgrounds for that desktop.
