Google Slides introduces proportional scaling for objects to maintain visual clarity

Google has recently introduced a significant enhancement to Google Slides: proportional scaling for multiple selected objects. This update allows users to resize groups of objects while maintaining their visual integrity, ensuring that attributes like fonts, borders, and shadows adjust seamlessly.

Key Features of the Update:

  • Proportional Scaling: When multiple objects are selected, resizing them using corner handles will now scale all items proportionally. This means that all elements, including text and shapes, adjust in size uniformly, preserving the overall design and layout.

  • Enhanced Object Selection: For slides with overlapping objects, hovering over an item now highlights it with an outline. This visual cue simplifies the process of selecting specific objects within complex designs.

Important Considerations:
  • Edit Mode Only: These features are available exclusively in edit mode and do not function during presentation mode.
  • Corner Handles for Scaling: Proportional scaling applies when using corner handles to resize object groups or multiple selections. Side handles will continue to function as they did previously.
  • Format Options Sidebar: Users can also scale object selections using the resize controls in the format options sidebar.
Rollout Details:
  • Rapid Release Domains: The gradual rollout began on March 24, 2025, with full visibility expected within 15 days.
  • Scheduled Release Domains: The rollout for these domains is scheduled to start on April 14, 2025, also over a 15-day period.
This update is available to all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual Subscribers, and users with personal Google accounts.
By introducing proportional scaling and improved object selection, Google Slides continues to enhance user experience, making the design process more intuitive and efficient.
