You can use less data for calls, turn off Media auto-download, and reduce Media upload quality to save mobile data in the WhatsApp app on Android.
How to turn off Media auto-download in WhatsApp app on Android phone
To turn off Media auto-download on WhatsApp app:
- Tap on More options (3 vertical dots at top right) and select Settings.
- In Settings, tap on Storage and data.
- In Storage and data, under Media auto-download, tap on When using mobile data.
- Uncheck all items and then tap on OK.
To turn off Media auto-download on a roaming network, tap on "When roaming" and uncheck all items and then tap on OK.
If you want to turn off Media auto-download on Wi-Fi, tap on "When connected on Wi-Fi" and uncheck all items and then tap on OK.
How to reduce Media upload quality in WhatsApp app on Android phone
To reduce Media upload quality on the WhatsApp app:
- Tap on More options (3 vertical dots at top right) and select Settings.
- In Settings, tap on Storage and data.
- In Storage and data, under Media upload quality, tap on Photo upload quality.
- Select Data saver and tap on OK.
How to use less data for calls in WhatsApp app on Android phone
To use less data for calls on the WhatsApp app:
- Tap on More options (3 vertical dots at top right) and select Settings.
- In Settings, tap on Storage and data.
- In Storage and data, turn on the toggle next to Use less data for calls.
Currently, I am using the WhatsApp app version 2.21.24.22. So these settings may be different in different versions.
