A new feature in Google Chat allows users to quickly summarize Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets files shared within a conversation.
How it Works
To use this feature, users can click the "Summarize this file" button within the file preview card. Gemini will then generate a bulleted synopsis of the file, providing a quick overview without needing to open the document.

Availability
This feature is available to various Google Workspace editions and add-ons and is being rolled out starting March 18, 2025, with expected completion by early April 2025.
Requirements
To access summaries, users need to have smart features and personalization turned on. Admins can manage this in the Admin console, and end users can manage it in their Google product settings.
