March 2025 Update: Microsoft Photos Gets Smarter with AI and OCR

The March 2025 update for the Microsoft Photos app is rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Release Preview Channel on both Windows 11 and Windows 10. Not all Insiders will see this update right away or the features noted below as we roll things out to more Insiders over time. Here are the highlights of the update:
Search the web with OCR-extracted text: The Photos app now features Optical Character Recognition (OCR) that supports over 160 languages. It lets users extract text from images and search the web directly from the app for related information.
Quick access to AI editing and visual search from File Explorer: New shortcuts in File Explorer allow users to edit images using AI tools like Microsoft Designer, erase unwanted objects, and perform visual searches with Bing.
Show subfolder images and videos: Users can now enable a filter to view images and videos from subfolders in the Photos Gallery, making navigation more comprehensive.
New Copilot button in the Photos app: Copilot integration offers features like photo editing tips, image insights, and framing suggestions directly within the Photos Viewer.
Other fixes and improvements: Support for JXL files has been added, along with bug fixes to improve the performance of Image Creator and Restyle Image features. The update enhances stability when generating and saving images.
To access these features, users should update their app to version 2025.11030.20006.0 or higher via the Microsoft Store. Feedback is welcomed through the Feedback Hub.
