How to download and install Windows Movie Maker (Windows Essential 2012) on Windows PC


Windows Movie Maker (known as Windows Live Movie Maker for the 2009 and 2011 releases) is a discontinued video editing software program by Microsoft. It was a part of the Windows Essentials software suite and offered the ability to create and edit videos as well as to publish them on OneDrive, Facebook, Vimeo, YouTube, Windows Live Groups and Flickr.
Microsoft is no longer offering the Windows Essentials 2012 suite for download.
So, In this blog post or video, I going to show you, How to download and install Windows Movie Maker on Windows 11 / 10 / 8.1 PC

1. Download Windows Movie Maker installer

We can download the original Windows Movie Maker (as a part of Windows Essentials) from the Internet Archive website.

2. Install Windows Movie Maker

  1. After download, open the Downloads folder (or the folder where you downloaded it).
  2. Right-click on wlsetup-all.exe and select Run as administrator. On User Account Control, click on the Yes button.
  3. Movie Maker requires .NET Framework 3.5 to work. Windows asks to install .NET Framework 3.5 (if not installed). So, the data connection is required to download and install .NET Framework 3.5. Connect internet connection to your PC. On Windows Features, click on Download and install this feature. After this Windows will automatically download and install .NET Framework 3.5. Click on Close after installing.
  4. On What do you want to install? (In Windows Essential 2012) Window, select Choose the program you want to install option.
  5. On Select programs to install, uncheck all items except Photo Gallery and Movie Maker and click on the Install button. Do not install Microsoft OneDrive, Messenger, Mail, and Writer, because those will not work.
  6. After this, the setup will install Movie Maker and Photo Gallery. You can find these apps in Start Menu.
